To see the world through Joachim Oettli’s sensibility is to see it particularized through an array of emotions articulated in a play of light, color, and form. His subversively beautiful world, realized through acrylic paintings may be described as instrumentalities to expression. If we are now to ask ourselves for an account of what it is that we can perceive through Oettli’s work, what expressive quotient can we draw out of the artist’s visual realizations, we might easily respond that they invoke the notion of correspondence in which an expressive transformation is allowed to occur.
